EPA assesses marine discharge resource consent for Tamarind Taranaki

Malaysia-based Tamarind Taranaki Ltd has lodged applications for a marine consent and a marine discharge consent with the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA).

Tamarind is applying to undertake sidetrack development drilling from existing wells in the Tui Field, offshore Taranaki, and to discharge harmful substances from the deck drains of its drilling rig, according to EPA. Tamarind intends to commence a drilling project in the Tui Oil Field in early 2019, which involves drilling 2 to 4 sidetrack wells from the existing wells.

The EPA is currently undertaking a completeness assessment on the application documents to determine if the applications will proceed to notification.
