Social Impact Assessment in Resource Management Processes

  • Beca Training Room 1 (Ground Floor, to the left inside the entrance) 21 Pitt Street Auckland CBD New Zealand (map)

Social Impact Assessment (SIA) is the well-established process of analysing and managing intended and unintended consequences of planned interventions on people. The process combines social research, community engagement, planning and management of social change, and focuses on affected individuals, groups, and communities. It can be applied to policy analysis, land use planning, infrastructure projects and used as part of optioneering processes.

The SIA process usually has a focus on bringing about a more sustainable human environment. SIA has become firmly established as an important aspect of environmental impact assessment, including as part of matters covered by the Resource Management Act framework.

Come and hear from experts Charlotte Lee (Beca), Julie Boucher (Just Add Lime) and Rebekah Pokura-Ward (NZTA) presenting how SIA has been used to positively influence resource management processes in Aotearoa. This will be followed by a panel discussion on current and future opportunities for SIA, and how these can be embedded into project delivery to facilitate positive outcomes.

All panel members have had extensive experience in RMA work in New Zealand and overseas. They bring a collective wealth and knowledge on SIA.

Light refreshments and drinks will be provided.
