2023 RMLA Scholarship recipient - Alexander Young

RMLA is delighted to announce two Masters Scholarship winners for 2023; Alexander Young and Terri Winder.

Alex Young is going to study for a Master of Laws in Environmental Law in the United States of America. His proposed dissertation relates to a comparative study of indigenous land use practices and the application of indigenous cultural knowledge to climate change mitigation and adaptation. Alex says “by getting to study both international and the United States' approach to climate change regulation will help me to gain a better holistic grasp of the issues facing climate change regulation, and research the opportunities to improve the gaps in these frameworks.”

Terri Winder is undertaking a Master of Urban Design at the University of Auckland. The title of Terri’s proposed dissertation is “Embracing Eternity: Reimaging Urban Cemeteries as Harmonious Spaces for the Living and Departed”. Terri’s background is as a planner and she is pursuing a master's that focuses on designing the spaces between buildings in towns and cities, and her thesis will study how to better integrate cemeteries within the urban environment.

Alex and Terri will receive a scholarship of $5,000 each. The RMLA wishes both Alex and Terri well in their master's studies and looks forward to receiving their articles for consideration for publication in the NZJEL in due course.
