Derek Nolan has been appointed QC

The RMLA would like to congratulate founding member and former RMLA President, Derek Nolan, on his appointment to Queen’s Counsel.

Derek was a founding member of the Resource Management Law Association (RMLA) back in 1992. In 1996 he served as President of the RMLA.

In 2008, RMLA awarded Derek Nolan its prestigious Outstanding Person Award for his leadership and commitment to excellence in resource management practice. In 2012, as editor of the fourth edition of Environmental and Resource Management Law, he was honoured with RMLA’s Publication Award.

Derek Nolan’s areas of expertise are environmental and resource management law and related fields. He graduated with a LLB (Hons) from the University of Auckland and a LLM from the London School of Economics and Political Science. He was admitted in 1976.

Following his Postgraduate study abroad, Derek returned to New Zealand to join Russell McVeagh where he was a partner for 30 years. Derek joined the independent bar in 2014.
