First report on Governments greenhouse gas emissions targets released

The first quarterly reports on progress towards the nine Government Targets have been published. Target 9 is to reduce net greenhouse gas emissions.

The report indicates the country is currently projected to be on track for the first part of Target 9, to ‘keep net emissions below 290 megatonnes from 2022 to 2025’.

The second part of the target is to ‘keep net emissions below 305 megatonnes from 2026 to 2030’. The analysis shows this is also achievable, with the additional policies proposed in the Government’s draft second emissions reduction plan.
