Energy in New Zealand 2020 released
The renewable share of energy in 2019 pulled back from the previous year’s record high due to reduced hydro electricity generation, according to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment’s latest annual energy report.
Energy in New Zealand 2020, is MBIE’s annual round-up of the energy sector, highlighting key trends in energy supply, transformation, demand, and price for the 2019 calendar year.
Daniel Griffiths, MBIE Manager of Markets, Evidence and Insights says “The share of renewable energy sources fell to 39.5 percent of total primary energy supply. This came off last year’s record high of 39.8 percent and is still the second-highest level recorded in the series."
COVID-19 has had a significant impact on the energy sector but the Energy in New Zealand publication covers only the 2019 calendar year and the Energy Factsheet has more recent information on the impact on the sector.
