2016/17 National Monitoring System data released

The Ministry for the Environment has released National Monitoring System (NMS) data for the year ending 30 June 2017.

The NMS requires councils to provide detailed data each year on the functions, tools, and processes that they are responsible for under the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA).

It provides transparency for the New Zealand public on how agencies are fulfilling their roles under the RMA, and also provides important insights into what RMA processes are working well and what can be improved.

In addition to the complete dataset, summary statistics have been published on the following topics:

    • Plan-making
    • Resource consents
    • Complaints, compliance, monitoring and enforcement
    • Māori participation
    • Council resourcing for plan-making processes, processing resource consents, monitoring, compliance and enforcement
