Auckland Council calls for submissions on proposed fuel tax

Auckland Council is inviting public submissions on its proposed a fuel tax of 10c per litre plus GST to fund transport projects in Auckland, within its broader ten-year budget consultation.

The objective of the fuel tax is to decongest roads by investing in more rail, buses, cycle and walkways, and improvements to the existing road network. According to the Council, traffic congestion costs Auckland $1 billion to $2 billion a year in lost productivity.

Submissions close by 8pm March 28.
