Blue Sky Meats fined for 3 RMA breaches

Blue Sky Meats New Zealand Ltd, an the Invercargill-based meat processor, was fined $116,250 on Monday for breaching the Resource Management Act by unlawfully discharging the effluent to land three times between February 2017 and September 2017.

At the Environment Court sentencing in Invercargill, Judge B.P Dwyer said two of the charges laid by the Southland Regional Council were related to effluent reaching waterways.

In 2015, the company was fined $50,250 in the Environment Court for two similar charges.

Blue Sky Meats is owned by Binxi Cattle Group, Lowe Corp and HW Richardson Group.
