Submissions invited on Te Waikoropupū Springs WCO

A Special Tribunal appointed by the Minister for the Environment is considering an application for an order to cover the Arthur Mabel Aquifer, Te Waikoropupū Springs, Takaka River and its tributaries, and associated ground water. It is now inviting submissions on the proposed water conservation order.

Water conservation orders are the highest protection for water, which can protect a water body’s natural state, its unique characteristics and its significance for tikanga Māori.

A public hearing will be held in Takaka, likely to begin in April 2018, to hear submissions on the application that was brought by Ngāti Tama Ki Te Waipounamu Trust and Andrew Yuill who is the Chair of The Friends of Golden Bay.

Submissions on this will close on 28 February 2018.
