2018 Awards Report

RMLA Awards Report 2018 : Citations

Christopher Day definitely stole the limelight at this year’s RMLA Annual Awards, being the Outstanding Person for 2018. Chris (as he is known to most) was sailing somewhere off Corsica on a catamaran doing 25 knots at the time and was skyped into the room. So this was definitely one of our more unusual presentations. Chris received the award in recognition of his significant contribution to the understanding and management of building acoustics and environmental noise so facilitating complex developments and furthering resource management practice in NZ over many years.

The Awards took place on the closing night of RMLA’s Annual Conference, themed “Reform or Transform” on Saturday September 22. With a stellar line-up of renowned international and national speakers, this year’s RMLA Annual Conference attracted over 420 delegates.

RMLA Technical Documentation Award 2018

The Technical Documentation Award went to New Plymouth District Council and their legal counsel Govett Quilliam for the NPDC Draft Digital District Plan. With a District Plan review underway and an eye to the requirements of the coming National Planning Standards, NPDC has created an e-plan that delivers plan users better access and understanding of planning information.

RMLA Publication Award 2018

The Publication Award went to Catherine J Iorns Magallanes for her article “Access to Environmental Justice for Maori”. It is a well argued but also accessible piece that makes a critical contribution to environmental justice discourse in New Zealand. Its application has the potential to improve resource management practice for Maori in Aoteaora.

RMLA Project Award 2018

The Project Award went to the North Canterbury Transport Infrastructure Recovery Alliance (NCTIR) for the delivery of a project critical to New Zealand’s recovery from the 7.8 2016 North Canterbury earthquake being the reconstruction of the destroyed East Coast transport corridor, road and rail.
