MfE releases National Monitoring Systems data

The Ministry for the Environment has released National Monitoring System (NMS) data for the year ending 30 June 2016.

The NMS requires councils, the Ministry for the Environment, the Environmental Protection Authority and the Department of Internal Affairs to provide detailed data each year on the functions, tools, and processes that they are responsible for under the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA).

It provides transparency for the New Zealand public on how agencies are fulfilling their roles under the RMA, and also provides important insights on what parts of RMA processes are working well, what can be improved, and where further policy is needed.

Data-sets and analysis have been published on the following topics:

  • Plan-making
  • Resource consents
  • Complaints, compliance, monitoring and enforcement
  • Maori participation

If you have any questions about the NMS data or the analysis that has been released please contact nms@mfe.govt.nzImage credit: freepik
