The Environment Team at MinterEllisonRuddWatts, NZ's Law firm of the Year (Chambers Asia Pacific), is headed up by market-leading Partners Bianca Tree and Stephanie de Groot. This Tier 1 team, has an excellent reputation and works with a diverse range of top corporate, central government and private clients across numerous sectors including commercial property, energy & resources, infrastructure, industrial, healthcare, forestry and aged care.

This Auckland-based Senior Associate will have a key role within the Environment Team. The successful candidate will provide support to the partners and assist in mentoring and leading the talented senior, intermediate and junior solicitors in the team.

Members of the team are involved in a wide variety of environmental and resource management work, from consenting major projects, complex litigation to advising on climate change issues and corporate transactions. The variety and scope of the work in this team means team members get the opportunity to consistently grow their skillset. Their work includes:

  • consenting major projects, submissions on draft national policies and district plans, climate change and sustainability issues, environmental compliance, monitoring and enforcement, and advising on new policy and legislation;

  • working collaboratively with the firm's property, corporate and banking and financial services teams to advise on the environmental implications of property and corporate transactions; and

  • undertaking all specialist environmental litigation within the firm.

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • At least 7 years' legal experience from another leading law firm;

  • A strong background in environmental and resource management law, including litigation experience in this field;

  • Experiencing in advising on environmental considerations in various corporate, banking and financial services and property transaction;

  • An ability to work autonomously on files and have strong technical, written and analytical skills;

  • The ability to work collaboratively and as a part of a high performing team, with an interest (and ideally experience in) supporting and mentoring junior solicitors; and

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
