RMLA Road Show : RLAA in Practice

The Resource Legislation Amendment Act 2017 (RLAA) is the most comprehensive and most controversial package of reforms to the RMA since its inception 26 years ago.

It represents the Government’s second phase of reform of the Resource Management Act (RMA) containing close to 40 amendments and making significant changes to five different Acts.  How does this translate into resource management practice?

Derek Nolan QC - Barrister Bankside ChambersMartin Willliams - Barrister Shakespeare Chambers; and James Gardner-Hopkins - Barrister Woodward St Chambers walked a clear path through the latest reforms and their implications for practitioners, and enabled  you to walk away with a concrete understanding of:

Martin Williams:

  • New procedural principles, Council functions, and transitional provisions

  • National direction, national planning standards, and expanded regulation making powers

James Gardner Hopkins:

  • Collaborative and ‘streamlined’ plan preparation processes

  • Iwi participation arrangements/Mana Whakahono a Rohe

Derek Nolan QC:

  • Changes to consenting processes (notification tests, fast track applications, residential activity and subdivision)

  • Changes to Environment Court powers and procedures
