RMLA Auckland : panel discussion on the exposure draft of the NPS-IB
On 9 June 2022 the Government released a second exposure draft of the National Policy Statement for Indigenous Biodiversity. The exposure draft of the NPS-IB seeks to provide national guidance on important but challenging environmental issues, with the objective of protecting, maintaining and restoring New Zealand’s indigenous biodiversity. Consultation on the draft closes on 21 July 2022.
The NPS-IB has the potential to significantly change the way indigenous biodiversity is managed in New Zealand. From the fundamental concept of “Te Rito o te Harakeke”, the timebound requirement to identify and protect significant natural areas, and provisions relating to taonga species and highly mobile fauna, there is much for resource management practitioners to come to grips with.
The RMLA Auckland Branch welcomes practitioners to a breakfast panel discussion to hear perspectives from leaders in their fields:
- Gary Taylor CNZM, QSO – Chairman and Chief Executive, Environmental Defence Society.
- Dr Sarah Flynn – Senior Principal, Boffa Miskell.
- Dr Daniel Hikuroa – Senior Lecturer, University of Auckland.
- Jenny Fuller – Team Leader Biodiversity and Coastal Strategy, Auckland Council.
Breakfast will be served.
