Amelia will explore the specific opportunities she sees in the Resource Management reform programme and the shift towards a planning system that drives to outcomes, rather than focused to managing effects. In particular, she explores the opportunity for change as it relates to managing resources and resource use over time and the importance of intergenerational equity; whether our system has done enough to drive this and what the future opportunities by the changes proposed.

Introducing Amelia:

After completing her Masters of Science in Geography and a brief role with Whangarei District Council, Amelia commenced her career at Beca in 1997. She is Beca’s Chief Planner, on the Beca Board and is the Group Director of Beca’s Advisory business. Amelia has been involved in a wide range of planning and infrastructure work across New Zealand and the Pacific. Her project experience is largely associated with major transport infrastructure, utility services and social infrastructure. She has also been involved in a range of policy development, and in 2019 – 2020 was one of six independent experts on the Review Panel appointed by the Minister for the Environment recommending reform for New Zealand’s Resource Management system. Amelia is currently relishing the opportunity to grow and develop the diverse range of over 640 professionals in the Advisory business (including project managers, sustainability and environmental scientists, management consultants, strategic advisors, risk and climate advisors, planners, architects and urban designers in Aotearoa (NZ) and Australia). She is a mother of three rangitahi (teenagers… well nearly adults) and with her husband they live on an organic horticulture property in Pukekohe (South Auckland).
