Environmental Policy Analyst

The Environmental Defence Society (EDS) is a leading not-for-profit environmental organisation committed to improving environmental outcomes in Aotearoa New Zealand. EDS litigates on environmental matters, runs conferences and is engaged in an ambitious program of policy development. The latter includes a major review of oceans and fisheries management and of a wide range of conservation laws and related management framework.

We are seeking to employ a Senior Policy Analyst to assist with this work, based in our Auckland office.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking national and international literature and legislative reviews
  • Synthesising and analysing material
  • Organising interviews and workshops
  • Managing peer review processes
  • Writing reports
  • Giving presentations at workshops and conferences
  • Using social media

We are looking for someone with sharp intellect, proven research analysis and writing skills, high self-motivation and the ability to work effectively in a small team. The ideal candidate will hold a postgraduate degree in law (Masters, PhD or similar) and a degree in a relevant science. Knowledge of Te Ao Māori and an understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi would also be helpful.
