Using price signals to better manage water use

Water pricing has risen to prominence in New Zealand recently, largely as a result of debate during the 2017 general election campaign.

In the April 2018 edition of the Resource Management Journal, Kevin Counsell, Senior Consultant, NERA Economic Consulting asks whether society has a desire to see water used and allocated in the most efficient way possible.

Kevin also discusses whether “water charging” or “water trading” the best way forward, if the country does have a desire to regulate water use.
