Time for a charge?
To charge or not to charge for water? This political hot potato galvanised the 2017 New Zealand election like no other issue and, while a water royalty is off the table for now, the residual effects of the debate linger. Battle lines have been drawn and those on all sides have reacted with passionate rhetoric. For some, a water charge is a panacea to degraded rivers, while for others the imposition of a water tax will send our agricultural sector to the wall.
