RMLA invites feedback for submission on MfE’s Marine Protected Areas Act Consultation

New Zealand’s Ministry of the Environment has launched a public consultation setting out the Government’s proposal for a new approach to marine protection in New Zealand.

The Government proposes changes to the existing marine protection mechanism on the grounds that the current approach is “complex and inflexible”, with existing consultation and decision-making processes being “overly long, costly and cumbersome”.

RMLA encourages members to read the Ministry for Environment’s (MfE) paper and call for submissions. The document can downloaded here, or from the following URL:

The MfE’s deadline for submissions is 5.00pm, Friday 11 March 2016.

Details on how to contribute to the RMLA submission will follow shortly.
